News Release - Generous PPE Donation by Guizhou Association of Canada
Location: Brampton Civic Hospital (William Osler Health System)
Mississauga – Natalia Kusendova, MPP for Mississauga Centre, was joined by Amarjot Sandhu, MPP for Brampton West and Senator Victor Oh at the Brampton Civic Hospital on April 7th, 2020. Essential PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) was generously donated by The Guizhou Association of Canada. The Guizhou Association of Canada came together using their resources to obtain and mobilize the PPE, which included: approximately 22,000 gloves and 3,000 surgical masks. The MPPs are extremely grateful for their substantial donation as it will go a long way in supporting and protecting our healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses, personal support workers (PSWs), service associates, technicians and all allied staff at BCH. Stewardship and careful and monitored use of PPE is a reality in hospitals today and it is important that local communities, businesses, and organizations come together to support our frontline workers. This community’s leadership has proven exceptional as it demonstrates that Ontarians can stand in solidarity with one another. The coming weeks will be critical as Ontario awaits the delivery of the millions of procured personal protective equipment such as surgical masks, N95 respirators, protective shields, gloves, gowns and goggles. The province and hospitals are ramping up their efforts in every possible way, to ensure our health-care system is prepared to respond to a surge in COVID-19 cases which is expected to hit us in the coming weeks.
“Our healthcare providers are the backbone of our community. As direct-care staff go to battle with COVID-19, it is essential to support those protecting such a high-risk population. We are all in this fight together, but we must acknowledge what it takes to be successful, and the sacrifices caregivers are making every day to serve Ontarians. These frontline staff are the unsung heroes and they deserve our full support as they continue fighting to protect our loved ones. This is the Ontario Spirit.” – MPP Sandhu
“As a registered nurse, I know that we have a duty to serve our patients. This duty must be coupled with the duty to protect out frontline staff. Today’s donation will ensure that the staff at Osler have a few more days of predictability and assurance, as we await more supplies to arrive from abroad. This unprecedented situation requires unprecedented action from all of us: all levels of government, hospital administrations, organizations, businesses and citizens at large. I thank Yong Qi and Guizhou Association of Canada for their generosity.” – MPP Kusendova
“I couldn’t be more pleased to have helped facilitate the donation of critically needed medical supplies to the Brampton Hospital. Thank you to the Chinese Community in the GTA for once again demonstrating great drive and commitment to help during this time of need. The men and women working selflessly and tirelessly in our medical system deserve our recognition and any assistance we can provide to them. Those on the frontlines of this pandemic warrant tremendous respect from us all. They are the true heroes who are saving lives every day.” - Senator Victor Oh
